Excel Medical Electronics (EME) hosted a meeting of industry thought leaders in downtown Chicago to discuss the Streaming Analytics research platform. The Streaming Analytics platform utilizes EME’s BedMasterEx and BedComm data acquisition products to provide data to IBM’s Infosphere Streams analytics product. With over 50 attendees representing 20 hospital institutions and industry companies from across the country, the meeting focused on establishing a community of collaboration. Special thanks to the IBM Watson Research Center team, and to the early adopters at Emory, UCLA and Columbia Universities for collaboration and cutting edge technology presentations. The presentations from our early adopters fostered strong conversation around further exploration of big data research in healthcare, and how to best collaborate going forward.
The objectives for this meeting were set six months ago at a similar workshop in Atlanta. A simple "Hello World" representation of data from the BedMasterEx database grew into cutting edge visualization dashboards. This effort proved an excellent opportunity for collaboration, with teams from IBM Watson Research Center and our early adopter sites working with EME engineers.
At the conclusion of the most recent meeting, discussion was focused on defining goals to work towards for our next meeting. Among others, some significant ideas were: Exchanging visualization tools, analyzing data from ancillary medical devices via BedComm, and creating metrics for clinical input data.
